The narrow-gauge railway Grundhof – Befort was a meter- gauge narrow - gauge railway in Luxembourg . The approximately 7 km long railway line led from Grundhof in the Sûre valley to the heights of the southern Ardennes .

history

The railway line was built by the Prinz-Heinrich-Eisenbahn- und Erzgrubengesellschaft , three switchbacks had to be created to overcome the difference in altitude of around 200 m .

The narrow-gauge railway was opened on November 8, 1904, from Grundhof to the quarries. Initially, the line was only used to transport the sandstone that was broken at Befort and Reisdorf . On November 6, 1911, the extension from the third hairpin to Befort was opened and from then on, passenger services were also carried out. Traffic on the narrow-gauge railway was stopped in 1948.

Two tank steam locomotives of the N series were specially procured for the route . Several two-axle wagons were available for passenger traffic, while goods traffic was carried out with trolleys .
