Melt sample
A melt sample is a physical method for determining the melting point or a chemical detection method for the chemical reaction of a heated sample in a melt or by thermal or chemical decomposition .
- In analytical chemistry , the melt sample is used for the first rough characterization of unknown substances. A small sample of an unknown substance is placed on a magnesia channel and heated in the flame of a Bunsen burner . In this way you can visually recognize whether the sample is burning or melting and draw conclusions from it.
- In analytical chemistry, the production of an oxide melt is also referred to as a melt sample or spinel sample . For example, the detection reaction to aluminum as Thénards Blue
- In metallurgy, a process for determining the composition of a material sample. The sample is heated to the melting point and conclusions can be drawn about the material from the melting temperature .
