Schmid was a French - Swiss Grand Prix racing car from the 1920s .

Development and racing history

The Zurich ball bearing manufacturer Schmid-Roost, Oerlikon (SRO Roulements a Billes) founded a production branch in Annecy, France, in 1916 , from which today's company NTN-SNR Roulements emerged. As the head of the branch, the son of the company's founder, Ernest Schmid, developed a valveless six-cylinder slide engine there after the First World War , which was manufactured under license by the car manufacturer Peugeot for its own production line from 1922 to 1927 .

In order to further increase the awareness of his products, Schmid decided to take part in automobile races in 1924 . For this purpose, he developed a valveless 2-liter six-cylinder engine in accordance with the International Grand Prix formula , two of which were installed in older Rolland Pilain A22 chassis from the 1922 Grand Prix season . Jules Goux and Giulio Foresti were hired as pilots , who contested the French and Italian Grand Prix as well as the Gran Premio de San Sebastián in the 1924 season . However, compared to the Alfa Romeo P2 equipped with supercharged engines , Schmid's design had no chance. The best result was fifth and sixth at the Italian Grand Prix, while the other two races each ended with complete failures of the team.
