Otto Schmidt-Hofer (* 1873 in Berlin ; † 1925 there ) was a German sculptor.

Life

Schmidt-Hofer studied in Berlin at the Royal Academy of Arts and at the teaching institution of the Berlin Museum of Applied Arts . The artist, closely associated with the court of Hohenzollern , was a member of the Reich Economic Association of Visual Artists . He lived in Paris until 1914 and after the First World War he lived in poor conditions in Berlin, where he died in 1925.

His numerous bronze statuettes of heroes, dancers, athletes and warriors were already well known before the First World War and he exhibited his sculptures in almost all well-known European galleries. From 1893 until the beginning of World War I, he primarily created works of art in the style of neoclassicism and Art Nouveau, and from 1915 until his death in the style of Art Deco . One of his works is a bust of Adolf Hitler .

Schmidt-Hofer was one of the most productive creators of bronze sculptures in the German Empire and is one of the leading sculptors of his time in Germany.
