The Schmidt Subglacial Basin ( Russian Подлёдная равнина Шмидта , Podljodnaja Rawnina Schmidta ' ; English Shmidt Subglacial Basin ) is a large basin in the East Antarctic Wilkesland , which is completely covered by glacier ice . It extends inland south of the Knox coast .
Participants of the Second Soviet Antarctic Expedition (1956–1958) named it in 1957 after the Soviet Arctic explorer Otto Juljewitsch Schmidt (1891–1956).
