The Schmitteberg tunnel is a 321 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line from Hanover to Würzburg . The building is located in the Hessian community of Neuenstein .

The gradient drops continuously to the south. The route describes a right curve in a southerly direction.

To the north, after a short section of open lines, the Mühlbach Tunnel joins. The Geisbach valley bridge follows the structure to the south .

history

The structure was planned in 1984 with a length of 250 m and calculated costs of 7.3 million DM. Construction should begin in June 1985 and be completed in May 1986.

Construction work began on February 1, 1985. A short section of the tunnel was constructed using the cut-and-cover method. He was on 2 May 1986 by beaten . The construction work was completed in 1989. The length of the tunnel was given as 325.5 m.

In the planning and construction phase, the structure was on the southern edge of planning section 14 in the middle section of the new line.

The tunnel was put into operation in 1991 as part of the new Göttingen – Kassel section.
