Comforter

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schmusetuch or Schnuffeltuch or Kuscheltuch is a common and widespread transitional object ( engl . Transitional Object , see Winnicott ). It is usually a large handkerchief or a small blanket , is partially sewn or combined with a stuffed animal and above all helps infants or toddlers to accept the absence of the caregiver, to find independence, to calm down and in to find sleep. Such a comfort blanket , like a pacifier or blanket, has a lot of emotions . When the child is (falling) asleep, it is often in the immediate vicinity of the child's mouth, which is why the scent of the towel with its usual odor characteristics is inhaled and has a familiarity.

The demarcation to the cozy blanket results mainly from the size of the object and the property that it is not used for covering.

The terms comforter or comforter are known especially from the comic series Peanuts and the television series Sesame Street .

In some cases, cuddly towels - comparable to stuffed animals, for example - are also used beyond childhood.
