Café from the Cleff

Schorfer Straße 7 is a listed building in the Wuppertal district of Cronenberg , for a long time it was known as the Café vom Cleff .

It was built in 1911 on behalf of Carl and Auguste vom Cleff by Hermann Propach in the typical Bergisch style as a slate house with a mansard roof . In the lower area, the Cleffs ran a restaurant , which they handed over to their son Walter vom Cleff and his wife Elfriede in the mid-1930s. Walter vom Cleff was a bank director in Solingen. Later, the daughter Ingrid Beckert took over the operation of the restaurant and continued it until 2002.

The house has meanwhile been used as a residential building and - in the basement - by the owner Michael Klapp as a café (sometimes called “Café vom Klapp”). Today (as of 2018) the restaurant bears the name "Café Born".
