Zainabiyya in Damascus

The Zainab bint Alis shrine in the Syrian capital Damascus is one of the two mausoleums that claim to be the mausoleum of Zainab bint Ali ( Arabic زينب بنت علي) - the daughter of Imam Ali and Fatima and sister of Imam Hasan and Imam Husain . The other mausoleum is in the Egyptian capital Cairo . The Shiites believe that Zainab was buried in Damascus. There are several accounts of Zainab's later life and death.

The shrine is an important Islamic pilgrimage site , especially for the Shiites .

Nearby is the Zainabiyya cemetery with a shrine for Ali Shariati .
