Zainab bint Ali

Zainab bint Ali , u. a. also Zeynab (* 625 ; † March 27, 682 , Arabic زينب بنت علي, DMG Zaynab bint ʿAlī ) was a daughter of Imam ʿAlī ibn Abī Tālib and Fatima bint Mohammed and sister of Imam Hasan ibn ʿAlī and Imam al-Husain ibn ʿAlī . Mohammed , who is considered a prophet in Islam, was her maternal grandfather and thus she is a member of the Ahl al-bait (the family of the Prophet Mohammed) and an Alid . She was the great heroine of Ashura . She played an important role in the Battle of Karbala , rescuing Hussain's son from the battle, and thereby gaining Mohammed's direct line of descendants.

The shrine of Zainab bint Ali is an Islamic pilgrimage site, especially for Shiites .
