The school Döhrnstraße is a public school founded in 1884 in the Hamburg district of Lokstedt . At first the school was an elementary school , then a primary, secondary and secondary school and since 1997 a pure primary school . Since 1999 the school has been the only elementary school in Hamburg to offer bilingual classes in German and Italian .

history

Pupils at the Döhrnstrasse primary school, (presumably) class 5a around 1930

A school in Lokstedt, then still in Denmark, was first put on record in 1729. A more detailed written record has existed since the end of the 18th century. The classroom was then in a cottage on today's Spritzenweg. Increasing numbers of pupils made it necessary to have their own school house, so in 1875 two classrooms were demolished and a decision was made to build a new one. In 1884 the new building of the "Schule im Döhrn" was inaugurated. At that time the school consisted of five classes, which were separated according to sex. The gender segregation was lifted in 1910 except for the final classes. In 1920 the school was reorganized. From now on it was a fully developed eight-level secondary school with an affiliation to a three-class special needs school . The school association was founded in 1929 following a resolution by the parents' council .

The school building was damaged during the Second World War. Lokstedt children were educated at schools in Niendorf and Hoheluft. After the end of the war, the school was cleaned up and repaired. In 1947 there were 26 classes, which were initially taught from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in two shifts and soon afterwards in three shifts in 13 rooms. In 1949 a three-room barrack was built on the school grounds. In 1951 33 classes with 1,500 students were taught in the school.

In 1952 the middle wing of the school was built. After the gymnasium was built, the building of the auditorium wing and from 1974 to 1975 the construction of the primary school building (today's new building) followed. At the beginning of the 1990s, the lower secondary level was dismantled until the school became a pure elementary school in 1997.

The bilingual Italian class was introduced in 1999, with one class per year being taught bilingually. This offer is the only one of its kind in Hamburg. The school has been an open all-day school since the first half of 2012/13. Cooperation partner is the ETV child and youth promotion. In 2012, a dining room with a warm-up kitchen was installed on the ground floor of the main building to enable all-day care. For this purpose, the classrooms of the existing building were gutted and the load-bearing walls were replaced with a steel structure.

In the 2020/21 school year the school had 20 classes, i.e. 5 classes per year, plus two preschool classes. In the school development plan 2019 of the Hamburg school authority , the school's current situation (2017/2018) based on the space available is 4.5 speed, i.e. 18 classes. Continuous 5-speed trains, i.e. 20 classes, were set as the development goal. In order to create the necessary space for this, a new building with classrooms and a sports hall was tendered in 2019. In the course of these construction measures, existing buildings are also to be renovated.
