history

In 1839 Louis Schuler founded the company, which produced the first sheet metal working machines from 1852. The first minting presses were exported to China in 1895 . At the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900, Schuler showed the world's first transfer press. In 1924 the first body press for mass production was delivered. Internationalization began in 1961 . In 1999 the company went public and entered laser technology with the takeover of Held Lasertechnik in Dietzenbach. In 2007, Müller Weingarten AG was taken over by Schuler, which also included Umformtechnik Erfurt . The takeover created a leading global provider of metal forming technology with a market share of around 35 percent.

In the same year, Schuler introduced the ServoDirect technology for presses, which has meanwhile become the industry standard. The TwinServo technology followed in 2014.

A double-lever deep-drawing press manufactured by Schuler from 1928 has been preserved in the Eisenach automobile plant and is erected in front of the Automobile Welt Museum in Eisenach as a technical monument after it was in operation there until 1998.

When the proportion of shares in free float fell below 10% in autumn 2012, Schuler AG shares were removed from the SDAX share index .

In May 2012, the Austrian company Andritz AG took over 38.5% of the shares in Schuler AG from the Schuler-Voith family and made the shareholders an offer of EUR 20 per share. As of February 15, 2013, Andritz reported a stake of 93.57 percent after the antitrust authorities had previously given their approval for the takeover.

The Executive Board of Schuler AG decided in spring 2014 to apply for the revocation of the listing of the shares in Schuler AG ( delisting ).

In 2017 the Schuler Innovation Tower was inaugurated at the headquarters in Göppingen.

As part of its sponsoring activities, Schuler supports projects in the areas of science, research, education, social issues and engagements at the locations. For example, the Louis Schuler Fund for Education and Science eV has the mandate to specifically promote young professionals and educational institutions in the field of technology.

In July 2019, Schuler announced that it would cut 500 jobs in Germany. Production in Göppingen is to be completely discontinued and production in China and Brazil is to be expanded.
