Schulgasse 14

The house Schulgasse 14 is a Grade II listed secular building in Brilon in Hochsauerlandkreis ( Nordrhein-Westfalen ).

History and architecture

The stone house was built in 1431 and extended in half-timbered houses in 1659 and 1720 towards the city center . These dates are proven by dendrochronological investigations and by designations. The rectangular, two-storey quarry stone building with a gable roof is divided into both storeys by a massive transverse wall with fireplace. In this way, two rooms were created on each floor. In the larger room on the upper floor remains of the original figurative paintings have been preserved. Due to the stone construction and the spatial structure, such as equipment, washbasin and sink, as well as the size of the house, the complex can be interpreted as an Adelshof. Due to the wall painting and the secured dating back to the 15th century, the house in private stone construction is unique in South Westphalia.

Johann Suibert Seibertz was born in this house in 1788.
