School opera

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

School operas are operas and staged cantatas that can be performed by (around 8 to 20) children. The first attempts at school opera were made in the Middle Ages. In the Middle Ages as in humanism, the scenic and musical game served the religious instruction of the students and the introduction to Latin. However, musical play in school only flourished much later, after the end of the First World War in the 1930s.
