Life
Born a Bukowina German , Kaufmann received his first violin lessons from his father. In Brno he studied violin , cello and music theory with Bruno Weigl . Every year the cultural office of the City of Vienna gave a series of concerts for them during class. Peter and the Wolf had been on the program for nine years . Now the Poldrini Circus followed. From 1966 to 1980 Kaufmann worked as a freelance musician and composer . In his compositional work, Kaufmann is to be counted among the representatives of new music . In addition to the great music theory currents of his time, Yugoslav folklore in particular also influenced his style of composition. Armin Kaufmann has mainly created chamber music works (especially 7 string quartets ) and solo literature. For large orchestra he wrote a. a. four symphonies . He also wrote some vocal works and pieces for mandolin , guitar and zither . Kaufmann himself describes his musical life as synaesthetic .
