Karl Michael von Levetzow

Karl Michael Freiherr von Levetzow (also Carl Michael von Levetzow , pseudonym M. Karlev ; born April 10, 1871 in Dobromilitz , Moravia ; † October 4, 1945 in Mírov , Czechoslovakia ) was an author and librettist .

Life

On his father's side, Karl Michael von Levetzow came from the Mecklenburg noble family Levetzow , his mother belonged to a Bohemian nobility family . From 1887 to 1896 he studied law at the University of Vienna. After a year in South America, he became a civil servant and worked temporarily in Trieste . In Berlin he worked at the Überbrettl, the cabaret Ernst von Wolzogens . Travels took him through Europe, India and Egypt. From 1930 he lived in Bohemia. He wrote libretti for works by Eugen d'Albert , Hans Gál , Ottmar Gerster and Armin Kaufmann . He also published poetry and aphorisms. After the end of the Second World War Levetzow was taken to the Mírov prison, where he died.
