Schumacher is an impact crater on the northeastern edge of the moon's front . It is located immediately north of the large Messala crater and west of Lacus Spei . The rim of the crater is eroded and is overlaid by the Schumacher B secondary crater in the west . The inside is relatively flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German astronomer Heinrich Christian Schumacher .
