Protective grille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A protective grille is a technical device that uses a grille to protect an area against intrusion or falling. In industrial production they are part of the safety systems or occupational safety equipment and serve to prevent occupational accidents.

The protective grids can be classified according to different aspects

  • after use: movable protective grille - fixed protective grille
  • according to material or mode of operation: for example steel protective grille, aluminum protective grille, safety light protection grille

Protective grid in the world of work

Protective grids are used, among other things, to protect machine parts that could cause physical damage to people reaching into them. Machines or apparatus with accessible moving parts must be provided with protective grids. The design and design are subject to the applicable European directives and are dealt with in different EN standards. The basic definitions are set out in the machine standard EN349 with the necessary regulations for the planning and construction of machines, apparatus and systems.

The design of protective grilles in terms of size and design features is dealt with in EN 294, which was replaced by DIN EN ISO 13857 in 2008 .

The use of protective grids to secure production plants is subject to the applicable safety regulations and is controlled by recognized, competent organizations or persons. In Germany, a safety specialist for checking compliance with European standards is part of the commissioning of a machine or system. All possible aspects of the accident possibilities are checked and suitable measures are taken to exclude them. The creation of protective grids in production plants is subject to a comprehensive process of planning and construction. Due to the variety of possible accident situations, in most larger companies special concepts are created by specialists that comply with the regulations. One of the tasks of the occupational safety officer is to check the existing protective measures on the machines.

Areas of application (selection)

  • Effective accident and personal protection is an important part of occupational safety regulations in modern production technology and logistics processes. In addition to fixed grille elements, light grids for protection against accidents and light barriers are also used as non-contact protective devices (ESPE). These belong to the optoelectronic protective measures. They are used, for example, as a safety measure at the access areas to danger spots and lead to an immediate shutdown of the machine in the event of an interruption.
  • On conveyor belts, which can cause clothing to be drawn in due to their constant movement, for example, they must be provided with protective grids.
  • Stair guards are used, for example, to protect small children from falling down stairs. The unattended use is prevented by a grid that blocks access. Also serve to protect the infant playpens , playpens or grille.
  • Mobile protective grids are L-shaped so that approaching people can weigh them down so that they cannot topple over. Stationary protective grids separate groups of people from competitive groups, stars from self-portrayals or bystanders from accidents, or at sporting events such as hammer throwing .

  • Small, sensitive objects can also be equipped with a protective grille, for example clocks such as those used in the First World War.
