Schwabing Christmas Market (2010)

On the Schwabing Christmas market since the beginning of the set 1970 years a number of artists who in the summer on the "art mile" on the Leopoldstrasse Munich - Schwabing , were represented during the festive season in the former Swiss house their works.

In 1975 this gave rise to the idea of setting up an artists' market with real stands and an event program. With the support of the then Munich-Schwabing District Committee under the direction of Edith von Welser-Ude , the Schwabing Christmas Market was founded on Münchner Freiheit in 1976 .

From the beginning, the market was designed and approved as an artist's market. The internationality of the approx. 100 exhibitors, the high level of artistic work, as well as the quality of the craftsmanship, the cultural program and the annually changing decoration make up the unmistakable flair of the market.

A jury regulates the selection of the exhibited works as well as the new entries. This ensures that all works on display come exclusively from the exhibitors' studios and workshops, i.e. that no merchandise is offered. The artists of the Schwabing Christmas market get involved every year in favor of social projects.

In 2016 the Christmas market turned 40.
