The residential building Schwalmstrasse 204 , also called Villa Driescher , is in the Bonnenbroich-Geneicken district in Mönchengladbach ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

The building was built in 1928 and entered on September 14, 1993 under No. Sch 044 in the monuments list of the city of Mönchengladbach .

location

The property is located at the confluence of Schwalmstrasse and Bonnenbroicher Strasse within a spacious garden area that merges into an originally associated factory area.

Architectural and design features

The detached house, built of dark brick , consists of two cubes of unequal size pushed together on a rectangular floor plan , the edges of which facing the street are rounded. The structure of the facades is differentiated, the window shapes with a continuous vertical lintel varying in size and format, as well as the building heights.

The building is accessed from the west side via a 5-step, single-flight staircase. In the rounded part of the building protruding to the left, a large, high-rise rectangular window spanning all floors illuminates the stairwell behind.

A balcony on the south side that extends over the entire width of the house and a smaller one on the winter garden drawn in front of the building line (north side) as a plastic loosening of the building, which appears closed.

An ornamental frieze made of molded stones completes all parts of the building in a modified version as a parapet variation. The roof is designed as a flat roof.

Historical dates

The property was built in 1928 by the architect Kurt Paeckelmann for the Fritz Driescher manufacturer as a residential building.

Evaluation and justification

The free-standing residential building is one of the few that have been preserved intact in its original substance in an expressionist style. Due to its outstanding quality and its integrity, the house is a rarity and is also of importance for the street scene.

The property is worth protecting as a monument for urban planning and architectural reasons.
