The Black Combed Schnake ( Tanyptera atrata ), sometimes also called Wood Schnake , is a two-winged bird from the family of Schnaken (Tipulidae).
features
The Schnake reaches a body length of 18 to 30 millimeters. The males have a shiny black abdomen, the females have a broad, rust-red basal band and have rust-red spots on the belly. There are also females with a completely reddish colored abdomen and males with a reddish brown abdomen on the back and black markings.
Way of life and distribution
The animals come from Western Europe to Eastern Siberia and colonize moist forests. They fly from June to July and occur only sporadically.
