Black rain ( Japanese 黒 い 雨 , Kuroi ame ) is a novel by the Japanese author Masuji Ibuse from 1965 , which addresses the aftermath of the atomic bombing on Hiroshima for the people affected and the Japanese self-image.

The book tells everyday stories from the lives of the inhabitants of a small village on the outskirts of the city ​​of Hiroshima, which was devastated by a nuclear fire on August 6, 1945 . In the following months and years they not only suffer from physical and mental injuries, but also from discrimination by their own healthy compatriots.
