The Black Schmalbock ( Stenurella nigra , Syn. : Strangalia nigra ) is a beetle from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

features

The beetle, about 8 millimeters long, is very slender and has an elongated, bell-shaped pronotum . The top is completely black and shiny. From the underside, however, the abdomen, which is at least partially red in color, is visible. Exceptionally there are also specimens with a reddish pronotum.

distribution

The black narrowbuck is widespread in Europe and is only absent in a few areas, such as northern northern Europe. It also occurs in Asia Minor as far as northern Iran.

Way of life

The larvae develop in various hardwoods such as birch and hazel . The adults can be found from mid-May to August. They fly in clearings on sunny days and especially visit the flowers of shrubs such as hawthorn and dogwood .
