The Black Lake (also known as the Little Lake ) is located in the Sternberg lake landscape about two kilometers north of Sagsdorf and six kilometers northwest of Sternberg in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It is located in the middle of the forest and has no above-ground inflows and outflows.

Abrupt edge at the Black Lake on the former Sagsdorf – Friedrichswalde connection

On the night of June 15, 1978, the water in the lake disappeared and residents heard a dull rumble. An excavator parked on the shore of the lake was torn into the depths, and the connection from Sagsdorf to Friedrichswalde was also interrupted over a length of about 100 meters.

Construction work on the bank could later be identified as the cause of the event. Gravel had been tipped to set up an extinguishing water extraction point. The leveling work and the gravel caused the earth to slide, and the lake water was forced into a subsequent swamp.

Over the years, the lake filled up with water again. As a result of the demolition, it is larger today than before. Some trees that were torn down in 1978 can be seen in the lake.

An information board on the lakeshore reminds of the event.
