Swedish mug

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schwedenkrug is one of the sagas and legends from the Franconian region in Bavaria .

According to legend, the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf is said to have recognized a former mercenary when he entered Nuremberg with his army during the Swedish War (1630–1635) , who fought against the Russians and Poles as well as the Danes and Lithuanians especially excellent. He is said to have followed the man's request and returned to his inn at the Golden Duck , where he is said to have played chess with the landlord . The chess pieces are said to have been cast from Swedish balls and the pewter jug, from which the king is said to have drank, was later called the Swedish jug in memory and the inn was named Zum Schwedenkrug .

Occasionally, jugs with the name Schwedenkrug are said to have been ascribed to the king's estate and offered as forgery.
