Pork belly ad

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the media and advertising industry, disparaging sales-oriented print advertising with price information is referred to as a pork belly advertisement, as used by retailers .

The pork belly represents a typical product of the supermarkets, which is not lavishly staged like high-priced products, but simply photographed and offered with a price in a brochure or on an advertisement page . The name distinguishes such consumer advertisements from image advertising, which is perceived as more artistically demanding. In contrast to the pork belly advertisement, the image advertisement aims to arouse emotions towards a product, a brand or a company and thus influence the purchase decision in the long term.

According to a study by the Bavarian Academy for Advertising and Communication, an advertisement with a price indication enjoys more trust and is more likely to encourage people to buy. Image advertising, on the other hand, is perceived as more sympathetic.

According to a report by "Zeit", Axel Springer Verlag with " Bild " is the market leader among advertising media for pork belly ads .
