List of apple varieties |
The Swiss orange apple , also called Swiss orange, is a variety of the cultivated apple . It was created in the Wädenswil research institute in 1935 by crossing an Ontario apple and a Cox orange peel and was first marketed in 1954. The medium-sized, juicy apple with a short stem is green-yellow to slightly reddish-yellow. The taste is sour-sweet, depending on the location with a weak aroma.
details
On nutrient-rich soils, in warmer locations, the variety can only thrive with intensive care measures in moist soils. It is prone to specks and wilt and is moderately sensitive to pressure. Suitable as a table apple, the variety produces a golden yellow pulp when rubbed.
