Swiss Regiment No. 3 (Spanish: Regimiento Suizo de Reding n.º 3 ) was one of the last six Swiss regiments that served the Spanish Crown from 1742 to 1835.
history
The " Regimiento Suizo nº 3 " was founded after the surrender of Felipe V in 1742 and existed until 1835. From 1808, Regiment No. 3 was under the command of Lieutenant General and later Captain General Theodor Reding von Biberegg , who was the Swiss General of Was in Spanish service during the Napoleonic Wars. The Swiss regiments were successfully involved in the Battle of Bailén . At the head of the Swiss regiments, Reding broke the political myth of the invincibility of the French in the Spanish War of Independence and the Swiss regiment was named "Regimiento Suizo de Reding nº 3" with the addition of Reding.
Today in the second largest city of Málaga in Andalusia there is an association "Asociación Histórico", which upholds the uniforms and tradition of the Regimiento Suizo de Reding n.º 3. A plaque was put up in Málaga in 2009 that Teodoro Reding was Governor of Málaga and hero of the Battle of Bailen.
