The Swiss Academy for Perinatal Pharmacology (SAPP) (formerly the Swiss Working Group for Perinatal Pharmacology) is a non-profit organization that, according to its statutes, promotes the knowledge and dissemination of information on the effects of substances ( medicinal products including those of complementary medicine , vaccines , diagnostics , Food supplements , addictive substances , environmental pollutants , ionizing radiation ) in pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, unborn children, premature babies and newborns and breastfed infants. The association sees itself as a link between the disciplines of pharmacy and medicine ( obstetrics , neonatology , anesthesia , psychiatry, etc.), between practice, clinic, research and authorities.

history

On December 6, 2007, Swiss pharmacists and doctors from the field of perinatal medicine and perinatal pharmacology founded the Swiss Working Group for Perinatal Pharmacology, SAPP, on the initiative of Ursula von Mandach.

The association was founded based on the need to collect knowledge already gained in the field of perinatal pharmacology and to promote new knowledge in order to be able to use it in an interdisciplinary network of specialists in health care (pharmacists and doctors in the office or practice, in the hospital in research as well as in government authorities) in the form of publications (active ingredient monographs, etc.) and training courses regularly and easily accessible.

On November 29, 2012, the association celebrated its 5th anniversary in the form of a specially designed annual conference. The first honorary member was also appointed.

In February 2013, the association had written almost 40 active ingredient monographs and had 119 members.

target

The association promotes the concerns of perinatal pharmacology at all institutions of the Swiss health care system (especially professional organizations and specialist societies), at Swiss universities, Swiss research programs and at the manufacturers of pharmaceuticals. The association promotes evidence-based therapy for diseases during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the application and safety of off-label use drugs during pregnancy and breastfeeding apart. The association encourages the formation of international networks for the use of substances in pregnant and breastfeeding women. The SAPP guarantees doctors, pharmacists and interested scientists advanced training in perinatal pharmacology.

The association is committed to the expansion of perinatal pharmacology in medicine and pharmacy. The SAPP promotes the awareness of the use of drugs and other substances in women of childbearing age before conception, during pregnancy and during breastfeeding.
