Swiss Physical Society

The Swiss Physical Society ( SPG ) is a lobby group for Swiss physicists founded around 1920 . With around 1200 members, it forms the largest part of the Swiss Academy of Sciences . The SPG is also the national member of Switzerland in the European Physical Society . The current president has been Hans Peter Beck since 2017.

Every year the SPG awards three prizes for outstanding physical research in the field of general physics , applied physics and solid state physics , each endowed with 5000  SFr . In 2005, a prize was also awarded in the field of “space science”.

The SPG was founded in 1908 in the canton of Glarus .
