The Swiss painting and plastering contractor association ( SMGV ) is the professional and employers' association of painters - and plasterers industry in Switzerland .

History and organization

The Swiss painter and Gipserunternehmer- Association SMGV is the professional and employers' association of the Swiss painting and plastering trade. It was founded on May 31, 1908 as the Swiss Association of Painters and Plasterers and currently represents the interests of around 2000 painting and plastering companies in German, French and Italian Switzerland.

The association area includes German-speaking Switzerland, the Jura and Ticino. There is a close partnership with Frepp (Fédération suisse romande des entreprises de plâtrerie-peinture), which represents western Switzerland. The management and service center of the SMGV are located in the association's own property in Wallisellen near Zurich.

The SMGV is an association within the meaning of Art. 60 ff. ZGB and has all the legally prescribed organs. The highest body is the assembly of delegates. This consists of representatives from the regional associations. Another organ at the strategic level is the central board. It consists of nine members, meets nine times a year and is chaired by the central president. The highest body at the operational level is the management. It meets as required and is chaired by the director. The division heads are responsible for managing the individual departments.

Tasks and association policy

The aim of the SMGV is the comprehensive safeguarding and promotion of all professional interests in the painting and plastering trade. Negotiating with the trade unions and drawing up the collective labor agreement is one of the association's central tasks. Furthermore, the SMGV counteracts the shortage of skilled workers in various working groups. One of these commitments is the "Teilzeitbau" project, which promotes part-time work in the plastering and painting industry. Furthermore, as the supporting organization of the Bausinn.ch association, the association advocates more appreciation for the Swiss construction industry and for the professional pride of construction workers.

Education and training as well as the promotion of young talent

In the service center of the Swiss Association of Painters and Plasterers, SMGV, at Oberwiesenstrasse 2 and Grindelstrasse 2 in Wallisellen, there is not only the office space but also the center for training and further education with painting and plastering workshops for practical training and accommodation for the trainees as well as a cafeteria.

In addition, the SMGV is committed to promoting young talent. Talented apprenticeship graduates can qualify for the SwissSkills professional Swiss championships and consequently for the EuroSkills and WorldSkills . In 2019 plasterer drywall builder Loris Glauser and painter Daniela Ziller successfully took part in the WorldSkills in Kazan. They received the bronze or silver medal for their achievements.
