Swiss food book

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Food Book (SLMB) is an official collection of recommendations of the Swiss Federal Council , some of which it declared to be binding, on how food , additives and everyday objects are to be examined and assessed. It is published by the Federal Office of Public Health .

The SLMB was first published in 1899. The basis has been the Federal Law on Foodstuffs and Utensils, Article 37, since 1992.

Up to the year 2000 the SLMB was published in printed form in several ring binders and with regular subsequent deliveries. From 2001 it was only available on CD-ROM and since 2005 it has been run as an internet-based application. Use is free after registration.

It is divided into four main areas:

  • Matrices (food, cosmetics, everyday objects and tobacco)
  • Analytes (including physical and physico-chemical parameters)
  • Methods
  • Legal texts (national and international laws, ordinances and interpretation aids)
