The Swiss Arms Institute , French Institut suisse d'armes anciennes , Italian Istituto svizzero per le armi antiche , English Swiss Institute of Arms and Armor is an organization that deals with historical weapons . The facility, based at Schloss Grandson in Switzerland, serves as an information and assistance point for museums, collectors, art dealers, publishers and authors in Switzerland and abroad.

The institute, founded in 1972 on a private basis at the castle, also carries out the conservation and restoration of old weapons and armaments .

In addition to taking on research assignments, the Swiss Arms Institute also publishes and translates works relating to weapons. One such project was, for example, the multi-volume illustrated book Der neue Støckel, published from 1978 under the editorship of Eugène Heer . International encyclopedia of gunsmiths, firearms manufacturers and crossbow makers from 1400–1900 .
