The new Støckel
The new Støckel is according to his subtitles an international lexicon of gunsmith , firearms manufacturers and crossbow makers from 1400 - 1900. The reference book is in short form as army-Stockel called and provides information on the names of about 3,300 manufacturers named in the title of historic weapons genres from a half a millennium to the beginning of the 20th century. In addition, around 6500 brands and symbols from 32 countries are shown from this period.
The German National Library assigned the work to the subject groups of energy , machine and manufacturing technology as well as the subject groups of economic history and the military . The approximately 2300 pages of the dictionary have been illustrated with numerous images and graphs.
Volume 3 of the series contains, in addition to a register and references, in particular the "Centers A - Z sorted by locality."
The editor Eugène Heer was responsible for the editorial management of this project of the Institut Suisse d'Armes Anciennes (Grandson) , the Swiss arms institute based at Grandson Castle , who was supported by Ellen Ducommun, among other things. The text, published in three volumes from 1978 to 1982, was published in Schwäbisch Hall by Journal-Verlag Schwend.
The reference work originally compiled by Johann F. Støckel , which was later updated and expanded by Eugene Heer, appeared for the first time in two volumes in 1938 and 1943 under the title Haandskydevaabens bedømmelse , German The evaluation of small arms . The texts were written in German and Danish, the glossary in English, French and German. The publisher of the work, which was then published in Reitzels Forlag in Copenhagen, was the Tøjhusmuseet, the Royal Danish Armory Museum . The edition of that time already listed hundreds of women who were employed in arms production.
