The order swimming ferns (Salviniales) belongs to the ferns .
features
The leaf blade is divided into fertile and sterile sections. The veins anastomose . Air tissue is often present in the roots, stem and petioles. One annulus is missing.
The plants are heterosporous . The spores germinate endospore. The gametophytes are reduced.

The order consists of two families:
- Swimming fern family (Salviniaceae)
- Clover family (Marsileaceae)
