Swimming type

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The terms swimming type or swimming technique refer to the special mode of movement when swimming. The German Swimming Association distinguishes between the following types of swimming for sport swimming:

Swimming types that used to be common and are seldom practiced today are side swimming and old German back swimming.

Differentiation from swimming style

A swimming style is the individual execution of a type of swimming by the individual swimmer.

Deviations from the specified norm of a swimming technique lead to a disqualification of the swimmer in the competition. For example, he is not allowed to change his swimming technique during a competition, for example not turning on his stomach while swimming back. The referee has to make the decision about deviations from the technical norm (if necessary after consultation with the referees ) .

The situation is different with the choice of personal swimming style: A change in swimming style would be, for example, changing from three-arm to two-arm breathing during the crawl swim or changing the arm position without changing the swimming type. Purely stylistic, rule-compliant manifestations of the individual techniques are not subject to any sanctions.

Explanations

The freestyle swimming type in itself means a freely selectable type of swimming. But it is mainly carried out as a crawl swim because the crawl is the fastest swimming technique.
In the swimming type position, the first four types mentioned are swum in the individual competitions in the order butterfly, back, chest and crawl.
In the individual relay competitions, the individual swimmers who start one after the other swim in the sequence of swimming types back, chest, butterfly and crawl.

Swimming combinations (also: movement combinations)

Here the arm guidance of one type of swim is combined with the leg movement of another type of swim. These forms of exercise serve to improve coordination.

Examples of movement combinations are: dolphin arms-crawl legs, dolphin-arms-sternum, back-arm-dolphin-legs, back-neck-dolphin-legs, back-arm-breast-bones, back-neck-breast-legs, back-neck-back-legs, breast-arm-scrub legs, breast-arms-dolphin-legs, neck-neck-dolphin-legs, neck-neck-neck.
