The Schyrenbad is the oldest open-air swimming pool in Munich . It is located at Claude-Lorrain-Straße 24 in the Untergiesing district to the right of the Isar , above the Wittelsbacherbrücke and below the Bischweiler tree nursery . An average of 120,000 guests visit the pool each season.

history

The pool was opened in 1847 as a municipal outdoor pool and a men's pool only; only from 1938 were women allowed in the bathroom. The swimming pool was fed with Isar water from the Freibadbächl , a branch of the Auer Mühlbach. In 1855 the bath was destroyed by a flood; Since 1877 it has been called Schyren bad (after the nearby Schyrenstrasse, which in turn goes back to an old spelling of Scheyern ). During the 1972 Olympic Games , the Schyrenbad functioned as a training facility, which involved extensive renovation work in the run-up to the Games. From 2006 to 2007 the bathroom was again completely renovated and since then has u. a. over two swimming pools and a water slide . The swimming pool is operated by Stadtwerke München .

Leisure activities

The Schyrenbad has a 50 m pool with three swimmer lanes, a non-swimmer pool, a paddling pool with attractions suitable for children, a wide water slide, an adventure pool with bubble loungers and a sunbathing area with old trees. There is also a children's playground, table tennis and outdoor chess can be played. The bath has space for 7500 visitors.
