Schyrowizy (Belarusian Жыровіцы, Russian Жировичи, German Schirowitz , transliterated Žyrovicy ) is a country town (аграгарадок) in Slonim Rajon in the Woblasz Hrodna in Belarus . In 2005 there were 2570 inhabitants here. Zhyrovitsy is about 10 kilometers from Slonim .
history
The oldest mention of the place in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is from 1493/95 . In 1652 he received city rights under Magdeburg law .
Since 1795 Schyrowizy belonged to the Russian Empire, since 1921 to Poland. In 1939 it was incorporated into the Belarusian SSR, and in 1941 it was occupied by Germany. In August 1942 around 1200 to 1400 Jews were shot near Schirowitz.
