The Science University Malaysia (USM) (mal. Universiti Sains Malaysia) in Minden , a district of Gelugor in the state of Penang is a state university in Malaysia founded in 1969 . It was the second newly founded university in Malaysia and, in addition to the main campus in Minden, has an engineering campus in the city of Nibong Tebal for the technical departments and a health campus for medical subjects in Kubang Kerian in the state of Kelantan .

history

The university was founded in 1969 based on a 1962 resolution of the Penang State Legislative Council . The intention was to establish a university college in the state of Penang . Studies began under the name University of Penang with 57 students. The first campus was the Malayan Teachers Training College in Bukit Gelugor . The Minden campus was completed in 1971 . The campus was built on the site of a former British barracks (Minden Barracks) named after the Battle of Minden .

The full-time management of the university is headed by the Vice-Chancellor . This is supervised by a board of directors . In contrast to other universities in Malaysia, this is not divided into faculties , but into schools:
