Scorngrain is a Finnish thrash and industrial metal band that was formed in 2001.

history

The band was formed in 2001 by Eniac (drums, music programming ) and Mika Packalen aka Dr. Mike Lederfaust (electric guitar, music programming) founded. During the year the duo made the first three songs and in the course of that BB Enema aka TwentynineA joined them as singer. After a first self-titled demo was recorded within three days and released in autumn 2002, it was sent to various labels, whereby the group won a recording contract with Dynamic Arts Records . The band then recorded their debut album Cyberwarmachine , which was released in spring 2004. With the live musicians Sebastian "AI" Forma on the electric guitar and Herman "Herbalizer" G. on the bass, isolated appearances followed. One of these, which took place in Petrozavodsk , Russia , was filmed and made into a live video consisting of two songs. Also was music video for the title track of their debut album on the compilation - DVD Inferno published. The following year the band wrote new material and otherwise took a break. About a year later, the band went back to the studio with producer Kimmo Perkki in the spring of 2006 to record the album 0.05% , which was completed for the Midsummer Festival and was released in October 2006. In 2010, Sonic Supernova Records released the third album Utopia.Paranoia.Perversions! released. It was included in the Finnish Miasma Magazine and was later published digitally.

style

According to Eduardo Rivadavia from Allmusic , the band combined the aggressions of death and black metal with wild electronic set pieces , some hip-hop , ambient and gothic rock and described the songs as unpredictable.

Conny Schiffbauer from Rock Hard described Scorngrain in her review of Cyberwarmachine as a “cyber-thrash combo”, which offers a mixture of “neurotic industrial , nasty black metal and powerful neo-thrash ”. The music is enriched with "synth effects, weird organ sounds, drum'n'bass sounds and some unsuitable rap vocals ", which reminds the group of Samael and The Kovenant , but because of the lack of variety and the inconsistent implementation of good song ideas, they can think of them both representatives cannot come close. The group also occasionally recall Kreator and The Haunted . In a later issue Mike Borrink reviewed the album 0.05% and referred to the group as "Cyber-Thrashers". The basis of the songs is Thrash Metal, which is modernized by industrial and other electronic sounds . Overall, the group is more homogeneous, darker and at the same time more melodic. Eckart Maronde from Metal.de wrote in his Utopia.Paranoia.Perversions! -Review that the group is trying their hand at being a more severe version of the Deathstars . As with its predecessors, the album features “Thrash Metal riffs , nasty hissing vocals and plenty of electronic gadgets, effects and samplings ” and he summarized it under the term “Cyber Thrash”.
