The Scotia Bay is a bay just east of Mossman Peninsula on the south coast of Laurie Iceland in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands .
It was discovered and roughly mapped in 1821 by the British sealer captain George Powell (1794-1824) on the Dove and the American navigator Nathaniel Palmer on the Hero . A detailed cartographic survey was made in 1903 participants of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902-1904) under the direction of William Speirs Bruce . Bruce named the bay after his ship Scotia .
