The Mossman Peninsula is a narrow and 5 km long peninsula , the south in the western part of Laurie Iceland in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands , the Scotia Bay of Wilton Bay separates. At its end are the Hartree and Murdoch capes .
It was discovered and roughly mapped in 1821 by the British sealer captain George Powell (1794-1824) on the Dove and the American navigator Nathaniel Palmer on the Hero . A detailed cartographic survey was made in 1903 by participants of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition under the direction of William Speirs Bruce . Bruce named the peninsula after his meteorologist Robert Cockburn Mossman (1870-1940).
