Scott L. Hines

Scott L. Hines (* 1958 ) is an American composer.

Hines studied music education, music theory and composition at Southern Illinois University , Carbondale, (Bachelor and Master). He continued his composition studies with John Baur , Kamran İnce and James Richens at the University of Memphis , where he obtained a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in 2008 . As Facilities and Performance Manager , he is responsible for the musical events at the University of Memphis.

Under the influence of children's poems from the Theresienstadt ghetto and music composed in concentration camps, Hines composed the piece Shoah: A Kaddish for Victims of the Holocaust for the Chicago Chamber Orchestra in 2001 , which was performed at the celebration of the centenary of the Souther Illinois Orchestra in 2003 with violinist Michael Barta , clarinetist Jennifer Davis and actor Edward Asner as narrators. For the opening of the 2004 season he composed a piece for the Ballet Memphis , with which the company later went on tour. The composition Roland: The Journey Continues for wind ensemble and tape was premiered in 2005 at the Imagine2 Electro-acoustic Festival . In 2005 the Greater Memphis Music Teachers Association named Hines Composer of the Year , and in the same year he was also nominated for Tennessee Composer of the Year .
