The Scottish Natural Heritage , or Dualchas Nàdair na h-Alba in Scottish Gaelic , is an agency responsible for the preservation of Scotland's natural heritage. Preserving the diversity of Scottish nature is at the heart of its activities. The authority advises the Scottish Government and commissions nature conservation measures on their behalf. This includes the administration of nature reserves ( Site of Special Scientific Interest ). Scottish Natural Heritage has 800 employees and has offices in many regions of Scotland. The headquarters were relocated from Edinburgh to Inverness in 2003/2004.

The Scottish Natural Heritage today includes islands such as North Rona , which have a significant population of gray seals and harbor seals . She was also involved in killing the brown-breasted hedgehogs introduced to the Outer Hebrides , as these had a very negative impact on the breeding populations of dunlin , ringed plover and redshank there .
