Christoph Erhard Freiherr von Bibra (born May 5 . Jul / 15. May  1656 greg. In Roßrieth ; † 28 January 1706 in Adelsdorf ) rose in his military career up to the rank of imperial Field sergeant and Mainz Field Marshal Lieutenant .

Origin and family

Christoph Erhard Freiherr von Bibra came from the Thuringian-Franconian noble family of the von Bibra . His first marriage was to Juliane Salome von Buttlar (1656–1696). He met her as a lady- in- waiting in Ansbach and married her on November 29, 1679. His second marriage was to Christiane Rüdt von Collenberg (1667–1742). Together with his brothers, including Georg Friedrich, Heinrich Karl and Johann Ernst , he received the hereditary imperial baron diploma in 1698.

Military career

His military career began in 1669 as a page at the Württemberg court. In 1679 he joined the Ansbach Margrave Johann Friedrich as a chamberlain and cavalry master . From 1682 to 1685 he was Rittmeister in command of a cuirassier company for the Frankish imperial knighthood , which belonged to the bodyguard of Field Marshal Georg Friedrich von Waldeck . He then took part in the Franconian District Cuirassier Regiment from 1681/1 under the Bayreuth Margrave Christian Ernst in the War of the Palatinate Succession . He served as a lieutenant colonel under Christoph Wilhelm von Aufseß's new dragoon regiment , which was raised in 1691 .

In episcopal service

He found a sponsor in the Bamberg bishop Marquard Sebastian Schenk von Stauffenberg , who pushed him through in the Franconian Empire against the interests of the Ansbach margraves. However, the parties were in agreement with the use of the brother Heinrich Karl von Bibra as head of the regiment (see also the list of regiments of the Frankish Reichskreis ). In 1696 he took over command of the Aufseß -Dragoner without becoming an official regimental owner. In addition, he also became the owner of a Bamberg company and, through the personal union of Lothar Franz von Schönborn in the bishopric of Bamberg and in Kurmainz, was a real privy councilor and commander of the city of Erfurt, including the citadel Cyriaksburg, in Mainz service. From 1700 to 1706 he was the fortress commander of the Petersberg Citadel as major general . For the Kurrheinische Reichskreis he led the Bibra-Dragoons, a newly established Dragoon Regiment (see also Reichsarmee ). In the service of Mainz he rose to the rank of imperial general sergeant in 1704 and in 1705 to field marshal lieutenant.

In 1696 his partly civil offices included the title of governor of Kulmbach and commandant of the Plassenburg . In 1702 he became hereditary sub-marshal of Würzburg .
