Scratch Orchestra

The Scratch Orchestra (founded in 1969 , dissolved in London in 1974 ) was an experimental British musical group . It was founded by Cornelius Cardew , Michael Parsons and Howard Skempton . The Scratch Orchestra emerged from Cardew's experimental music class at Morley College , London. Various experimental musicians came together. Both classical musicians , jazz - improvisation and rock musicians and visual artists, especially from the areas Mixed Media and Performance , worked together. They gave their last concert together in 1974. Their ideas were taken up many times. From 1974 the group developed from scratch. The group From Scratch was born.

In 2017, the Scratch Orchestra Archive and The Scratch Cottage were exhibited at documenta 14 .
