Sde-Dov ( Hebrew שְׂדֵה דֹּב Sdeh Dov , German '[flight] field Dovs' , officially:נְמֵל הַתְּעוּפָה עַל שֵׁם דֹב הוֹז Nmel ha-Teʿūfah al Schem Dov Hōz , German 'Airport in the name of Dov Hoz' ; also: Sde Dow ) was the city airport of Tel Aviv-Jaffa ( Israel ). The former airport site is located about two kilometers north of the city center on the Mediterranean Sea .
The airport was named after the Israeli aviation pioneer Dow Hoz . The official IATA - abbreviation is SDV , the ICAO -Kürzel LLSD . The airport had a runway (03/21) with a length of 1740 m. Sde-Dov mainly handled domestic flights to, for example, Eilat and northern Israel ( Galilee ), but also flights to nearby Cyprus. Private and business aviation played a significant role in flight movements, as the economic metropolis of Tel Aviv-Jaffa is right in front of the runway.
Flight operations in Sde-Dov should be over by April 2017. However, a legislative initiative prevented this. After two canceled closings in December 2017 and January 2019, the airport was shut down on the night of July 1, 2019.
