The series is about a group of daring deep-sea divers of the same name who experience all kinds of adventures in the vastness of the world's oceans. The concept for "Sea Devils" goes back to the author Robert Kanigher , who devised the main characters as well as the starting scenario on which all adventures are based. The first "Sea Devils" story written by Kanigher appeared in issue # 27 of the comic series Showcase - an "experimental series" in which the publisher tested various concepts for new series for their response from the readership - which appeared in August 1960. That first adventure of the Sea Devils was visually designed by the draftsman Russ Heath . The booklets of the independent "Sea Devils" series were written by the author Bob Haney and mostly drawn by the artist Chris Purcell.

After two more Sea Devils adventures appeared in issues # 27-29 of Showcase, which sold satisfactorily, the concept was devoted to a separate bimonthly series in 1961 that lasted six years until it was discontinued in 1967 with issue # 35 was continued. After the characters were only used as secondary characters and "guest stars" in other series for a long time, a second series was dedicated to them in 1986, which ran until 1987.

action

The main characters of both "Sea Devils" series and members of the "Sea Devils" team are: Dante Dorrance, the smart and handsome leader of the group, Biff Bailey, the standard "muscle man", Danes friend Judy Watson and her younger brother Nicky Watson . The four get to know each other in the first Sea Devils story in Showcase, in which they are all in search of the same treasure: they decide to work together to achieve the common goal and - after the treasure is recovered - agree to stay together. Afterwards, the four "devils" live together in a leisurely port city that serves as the starting point for almost all of their adventures. On their adventures in the depths of the oceans, the Sea Devils encounter figural sci-fi fantasies typical of the 1960s, such as sea monsters, aliens and a talking gorilla. The African Molo, the Indian Sikki and the South American Miguel as "International Sea Devils" join the (American) Sea Devils as occasional "guest members". Other recurring characters include some diving students, the "tadpoles" (tadpoles), and the green-skinned man from Atlantis named "Man-Fish".
