Horace Baldwin "Horrie" Rice (born September 5, 1872 in Sydney , † January 18, 1950 ibid) was an Australian tennis player .

Career

Rice took part in tennis tournaments from 1898.

In 1907 he became the third tennis player to win the Australian Championships . He could not repeat this success in the following years, but was in the finals in 1910, 1911 and 1915. He also won the doubles competition in 1910 with Ashley Campbell and in 1915 with Clarence Todd . He won the mixed doubles competition alongside Sylvia Lance Harper in 1923.

In 1913, Rice appeared once at the Wimbledon Championships , but was clearly defeated by Alfred Beamish in three sets. In the same year he came against the United States for his only appearance in the Australian Davis Cup team . He played two individual games, both of which he lost.

Horace Rice died in Sydney in 1950 at the age of 77.
