Sea Island is an island in the Atlantic Ocean that is part of the Golden Isles of Georgia . It is an island 8 kilometers long and 2.5 kilometers wide at its widest point, which belongs to the US state of Georgia . The island is connected to St. Simons Island , its larger neighboring island in the west, via a bridge. The closest city on the American mainland is Brunswick in southeast Georgia.

Sea Island became internationally known when the G8 summit of the leading industrial nations took place there from June 8 to June 10, 2004 . The conference venue was the Cloister Resort and Hotel.
